Fans of Dream Girl were charmed by the delightful chemistry between Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrratt Bharuccha. So when the sequel hit theatres with a major casting change—Ananya Panday replacing Nushrratt Bharuccha —it left many puzzled and disappointed. Nushrratt, too, has never shied away from expressing her heartbreak over the decision, and in a recent conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit, she once again opened up about how deeply the move affected her.
“It hurt me even more when I was not a part of my own sequel also. Every other actor was the same, except the girl, which I felt was not cool na, guys? It’s just not cool. Theek hai, no problem,” she said, her words echoing the quiet hurt of being sidelined from something she helped build.
When asked whether she tried to fight for her role in Dream Girl 2, Nushrratt admitted she didn’t. “No, Nayan. I’ll be honest with you. I can’t fight something I know is not going to change in any way, where I know there is no… What do I fight? What am I going to say? ‘Why not me?’ They’ll say, ‘We don’t want you.’ That’s the truth of it. It ends there. Eventually, it’s a choice somebody’s making. I cannot question your choice.”
Her candid reflection offers a glimpse into the tough, often unpredictable world of casting decisions in Bollywood. For Nushrratt, the disappointment is real—but so is her grace in accepting what she cannot change.
