New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has provided an update on star batter Rachin Ravindra, who is still working towards full fitness after sustaining a head injury in the opening match of the ongoing Tri-Nation Series against Pakistan. The young opener suffered a painful blow to the forehead while attempting a catch in the 38th over and was forced to leave the field. Since then, he has been dealing with persistent headaches, which have hindered his return to play.

Ravindra was absent from New Zealand’s crucial win over South Africa, which secured their place in the final of the series in Karachi. Although he resumed net practice on Thursday night, he has yet to be deemed match-ready. Stead reassured fans that the batter is making steady progress, adhering to head injury assessment protocols, and his headaches have started to subside. However, he still has several recovery steps to complete before returning to competitive action.

Meanwhile, veteran pacer Lockie Ferguson is also making strides in his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained during the ILT20. Stead confirmed that Ferguson has been gradually increasing his bowling intensity and is on track to feature in one of the next two matches. With the Champions Trophy fast approaching, the team is being cautious with players carrying minor injuries.

New Zealand will play a warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi on Sunday before kicking off their Champions Trophy campaign against Pakistan on February 19.
