In a shocking turn of events, the Odisha police arrested a man yesterday on the charges of murdering his wife and 2 years old daughter. The unfortunate incident took place on 7 October in Adheibara village which comes in Kabisuryanagar district, Ganjam.
The name of the person is K Ganesh Patra (25 yrs old) and he planned the murder of his wife, K Basanti Patra and his daughter by getting them bitten by a snake. Things were not on good terms between Ganesh and his wife and the latter had filed a case against him but still they were living together for the last three months.
The couple got married in 2020 and this is what Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena stated, “Due to their marital strife, Basanti had filed a complaint against her husband under The Dowry Prohibition Act.”
As per a report, the motive behind the crime could be the compensation amount of Rs. 4 lakh each which is given to the family members of those people who lost their lives due to snake bite.
The police managed to unearth Ganesh’s conspiracy only after Basanti’s father filed a case against him and accused him of his daughter’s murder.
As per the report, Ganesh took a new SIM in the name of his father and contacted many snake charmers. On 6 October, a snake charmer gave a cobra snake to Ganesh. At around 2 am, Ganesh released the snake in the room in which Basanti and his daughter were sleeping and locked it from outside. In the morning, Ganesh started shouting and crying as Basanti and daughter were dead, they were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The snake charmer hasn’t been booked in this case as he is the only witness and he was also unaware of the plans of Ganesh.
This was horrific.
