Odisha triple train crash: CBI seals JE’s house of railway signals

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday sealed the rental home of Soro Section signal junior engineer (JE), marking a significant development in its investigation into the Odisha triple train accident.

A CBI team reportedly arrived at JE Amir Khan’s rental home in Soro on Monday and discovered that it was locked when they arrived. Later, they sealed Khan’s home.

Two CBI agents are reportedly also watching the house, according to a source. He had already been questioned by the CBI at an undisclosed location as part of their inquiry. However, the signal JE and his family appear to have left the rented house after the terrible accident at Bahanaga, which has so far claimed the lives of 292 passengers.

Agents from the CBI have also visited the station master’s residence in Bahanaga to conduct an investigation.

The responsibility of a Signal Junior Engineer is crucial to upholding the safety of train operations. They are responsible for the installation, upkeep, and repair of signaling equipment, including railway signals, track circuits, point machines, and interlocking systems. They provide a vital contribution to ensuring the safe and efficient conduct of railway operations by carrying out these duties.

In the meantime, PTI reported citing government sources that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to visit Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday. Up to 292 persons were killed in an accident involving three trains earlier this month.

Vaishnaw would also meet with the administrators at the Balasore District Hospital, where several of the injured had been admitted. At around 7:00 p.m. on June 2, the Coromandel Express collided with a stopped freight train, derailing the majority of its coaches. The last few coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, which was passing by at the same time, were knocked over by a couple of them.

Additionally, the Balasore railway station development project will be examined and inspected by the minister. On Tuesday morning, Vaishnaw will also travel to the renowned Rath Jatra of Puri.
