Two of Hollywood’s biggest movies, Oppenheimer and Barbie, were released in theatres on July 21. Both films have received an overwhelming response from the audience, but recent reports show that Christopher Nolan’s movie, Oppenheimer, has outperformed Margot Robbie’s Barbie at the Indian box office.

According to the tracker Sacnilk.com, Oppenheimer earned Rs 13.50 crore nett in India on its opening day, across all languages. On the other hand, Barbie collected Rs 5 crore nett in India on its first day. Leading up to the release, Barbie had sold 16,000 tickets in bookings across three major cinema chains – PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, for the opening day. In contrast, Oppenheimer had sold close to 1.30 lakh tickets for its first day across the same cinema chains.

With this impressive opening, Oppenheimer has also surpassed the box office earnings of Tom Cruise’s recent release, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, which had earned Rs 12.50 crores in India on its opening day.

Oppenheimer’s storyline is based on the 2005 book “American Prometheus,” authored by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The movie centres around the life of J. The film also features other talented actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh in significant roles.
