Pannun’s Republic Day Warning Raises Concerns About Security in Punjab

Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Khalistani, threatened Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday with death on Republic Day. Punjab’s senior police officer claimed that Pannun called for gangsters to get together and assault the Chief Minister of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on January 26.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav commented on the issue, stating that severe action is being taken and that the state police force has implemented a zero-tolerance policy against gangsters.

Pannun, the founder of Sikh For Justice (SFJ) and declared terrorist, has threatened Indian government and establishments on several occasions in the past. In a video he published last month, the Khalisthani reader threatened to strike the Indian Parliament by December 13 at the latest.

Prior to it, another video purporting to show the Khalistani terrorist threatening those who were about to fly with Air India on November 19 by claiming that their “lives would be in danger” had leaked. Because of the Air India threat video, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a complaint against him.

According to the government, the SFJ is a “unlawful association” that was outlawed in 2019 for engaging in “anti-national and subversive” activities. The group’s goal is to create an independent Sikh country named Khalistan, apart from India. Additionally, Pannun was designated by the Centre in 2020 as a “individual terrorist,” claiming that he was urging “youth and gangsters based in Punjab” to support Khalistan.
