Delhi Police is seeking help from its Lucknow counterparts to trace a cobbler. The police want to make the cobbler a witness in the Parliament security breach case.
Sources said Delhi Police is asking Lucknow police to find a “cyclist cobbler” who made cavities in Parliament security breach case accused Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D’s shoes to accommodate smoke canisters.
Police are seeking Lucknow’s assistance to find the cobbler as a witness.
Delhi Police officials said Sagar tried to change the shoes himself but approached the cobbler, who bicycled to Alambagh in Lucknow, after failing.
Earlier last month, Delhi Police searched Lucknow for the cobbler.
On December 13, the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, Sagar and Manoranjan jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour, released yellow smoke from canisters, and shouted slogans before being overpowered by MPs.
They entered Parliament using visitors’ passes provided by two-term Mysuru Lok Sabha member Pratap Simha. Sagar told interrogators that he sought to develop shoes with a cavity after learning they weren’t scrutinized at Parliament.
When his attempts failed, he went to an Alambagh cobbler. He claimed interrogators he bought two pairs of shoes for Rs 595 each from a shop near his house and approached the cobbler, who bicycled to Alambagh “source.
“The left shoe sole was sliced to create the cavity. An extra rubber sole at the bottom supports the cavity, thickening the shoe sole. Part of the right shoe sole was cut, according to the FIR.
The Delhi Police Special Cell searched Lucknow earlier this month but couldn’t find the cobbler.
Using Sagar’s confessions, the investigators questioned several Alambagh cobblers, sources said.
They stated Delhi Police is asking Lucknow police to assist trace the cobbler, a potential witness.
According to sources, the crew found a pair of shoes, shoe soles, and a shoe size ruler at Sagar’s house in Ramnagar, Lucknow’s Alambagh.
His house yielded a Bhagat Singh journal and books. The investigators learned that Sagar admires Bhagat Singh from his relatives.
He also posted about Bhagat Singh and Che Guevara on social media. Police had said the Parliament security breach suspects planned to imitate Bhagat Singh’s bombing of the Central Assembly during British rule.
Sagar drove Lucknow e-rickshaws after graduating from class 12. Father Roshan Lal Sharma is a carpenter, mother a homemaker. The police have recorded Sagar’s family, friends, and shoe store owner’s comments.
In addition to Sagar and Manoranjan, Delhi Police arrested Neelam, Amol Shinde, Lalit Jha, and Mahesh Kumawat for Parliament security breach. All six were booked under the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
