The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has levied financial penalties on multiple players for violating its code of conduct, with allrounder Aamer Jamal among those fined. According to reports from Pakistan’s media, Jamal has been penalized PKR 1.3 million for donning a cap with a political message during an on-field interview.

As per a local news channel, the 28-year-old cricketer was seen wearing a cap inscribed with “804” during the first Test of a three-match series against England at home in October last year. The number 804 is believed to be a reference to legendary Pakistan captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned and serving a sentence. Reports suggest that 804 represents Imran’s prison badge number, symbolizing solidarity with the jailed leader.

In addition to Jamal, three more Pakistan cricketers have been fined PKR 500,000 each for breaching discipline during the team’s tour of Australia in November 2024. Salman Agha, Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and Abbas Afridi reportedly violated curfew regulations by arriving late at the team hotel during the South Africa tour.

The penalties come amidst mounting criticism of the national team following their disastrous performance in the Champions Trophy 2025. Led by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan failed to register a single victory in the tournament, suffering crushing defeats to both India and New Zealand.

In the aftermath of the ICC event, the PCB has reportedly slashed match fees for players participating in the National T20 Cup. Various reports indicate that players will now receive PKR 10,000 each, marking a 75 percent reduction from their previous earnings in the tournament’s last edition.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan team is currently in New Zealand, where they are set to compete in a series of eight white-ball matches, including five T20Is and three ODIs.

Cricketers should be careful and refrain from expressing their political views.
