Piyush Chawla Names The Cricketer Who Can Replace Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, often referred to as ‘The King’, has established himself as the pinnacle of batting in world cricket. As he continues to dominate, the question arises: who will take over when Kohli eventually steps down? Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla recently shared his thoughts on this matter.

Piyush Chawla, who remains active in franchise cricket, had a successful personal season with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, taking 13 wickets in 11 matches and finishing as the team’s tied-second highest wicket-taker. As a 2011 World Cup winner, Chawla has firsthand experience of Virat Kohli’s greatness, having played with and against him in various formats. When asked who could potentially replace Kohli, Chawla did not hesitate to name his pick.

During an interview, when Piyush Chawla was asked this question, he confidently stated, “Shubman Gill. Because of the technique he possesses.” He explained that a batter’s technique is crucial when navigating a rough patch of form. “If you notice, any batter who has great technique will never undergo a bad run of form for too long,” Chawla added.

However, Chawla didn’t stop at just one name. He also mentioned another potential successor. “So, for me, Shubman Gill is up there for sure, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad,” Chawla continued.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has made his T20I and ODI debuts for India following his IPL success, has faced challenges in securing consistent opportunities across all formats. His progress has been hindered by injuries, affecting his chances to represent India regularly. Nonetheless, Chawla recognizes the potential in both Gill and Gaikwad as future stars of Indian cricket, acknowledging that such challenges are a part of the game.
