On the third day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US began on Friday. On Thursday, he spoke to a joint session of the US Congress and joined more than 380 dignitaries at the White House for the state dinner given by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Both Biden and Modi praised a new era in their nations’ relations during speeches at the State dinner following the White House’s red carpet treatment of PM Modi.
News agency AP reported that Indian officials agreed to the event only the day before, according to a person familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss the sensitive negotiations.
Modi touted “a new chapter” to the countries’ “strategic partnership” after the two leaders emerged from Oval Office talks where the countries’ differences on Russia and human rights were on the table.
