PM Modi offers condolences after Al Ahli Hospital attack; Why India should support Palestine

PM Modi offered condolences after the tragic Gaza Al Ahli Hospital incident. This article examines India’s position on Israel-Palestine and why it should support Palestine.

After the Tuesday night strike against Gaza’s Al Ahli Hospital, which killed at least 500 civilians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered “humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people” to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday evening. PM Modi underlined his “deep concern at the terrorism, violence and deteriorating security situation in the region” . He restated India’s long-standing principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue.

Indian support for Palestine and criticism of war crimes Israel is committing against the Palestinians can be explained morally, historically, diplomatically, and humanitarianly. Here are some reasons India should support Palestine and oppose regional war crimes:

  1. History: Solidarity

India has long supported Palestine, entrenched in its independence struggle. Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru supported Palestinian self-determination. Indian support for Palestine is morally based on this history.

  1. International law commitment:

India has always backed international law and the UN. Many UN resolutions have supported Palestinian rights, including self-determination. India’s support for Palestine shows its adherence to international law.

  1. Humanitarian Issues:

Civilian casualties, displacement, and other human rights abuses committed by Israel in Palestine have alarmed the globe. Because it cherishes human rights and justice, India supports the Palestinian cause and condemns war crimes committed by Israel in Palestine.

  1. International Relations Balance:

India has a balanced Middle East policy to improve relations with Israel and Arab nations. India can manage the region’s sensitive geopolitics and promote dialogue and peace by helping Palestine.

  1. Global Impact and Regional Alliances:

India’s regional and global ties are affected by its international policies, especially the Israel-Palestine conflict. India can expand its regional ties and global power by supporting Palestine, which many Asian, African, and Middle Eastern states share.

  1. Public Opinion:

Many Indians care about the Palestinian conflict due to its big Muslim population. Supporting Palestine is important domestically and internationally because public opinion and politics can affect the country’s foreign attitude.

Palestinians have long sought self-determination, statehood, and rights. Geopolitics and history are complicated, mostly related to Israel-Palestine. National independence and a Palestinian state are Palestinian goals.

Important Palestinian causes include:

Right of Return: Many Palestinians are 1948 Arab-Israeli war refugees or their descendants. They want their land and homes back from Israel.

Statehood: Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip began in 1967. Israel in its crimes against the Palestinians has even gone to extent of blocking the basic necessities and aid in Gaza. Hence, Palestinians want Israel’s occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to end. The Palestinian leadership wants its people to live in an independent Islamic state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Status of Jerusalem: The Israel-Palestine conflict centers on Jerusalem, especially the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine is linked to Jerusalem’s Old City’s Masjid Al-Aqsa, sacred to Muslims and Jews. One of Islam’s holiest sites, Haram al-Sharif includes the Dome of the Rock and Aqsa Mosque.

Control and access to Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque are disputed. Palestine views Jerusalem as the capital of a future state and their identity. Israel calls Jerusalem its “eternal and undivided capital.”

Al-Aqsa Mosque often causes tensions over access and religious practices. These tensions have escalated Israel-Palestine violence and protests. Palestinians only want Israel to return Al-Aqsa Mosque to them as it originally belonged to Palestine. Muslim prayers in the mosque under Islamic authority is what the Palestinians want.

You can support Palestine in many ways, including:

Help Palestinians in need, especially those in difficult conditions, by donating to humanitarian, medical, and educational organizations.

Learn and educate people about the region's history, culture, and current issues to understand the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Promote peace: Encourage two-state solutions and dialogue between both parties.

Socialize and speak out for Palestine. Inform friends, family, and neighbors and have productive conversations.

Protest regional human rights abuses. Sponsor human rights and justice initiatives for all parties.

Join or support Palestinian advocacy groups and campaigns. Palestinian rights, awareness, and policy change are their goals.

Encourage interfaith and intercommunity dialogues to promote peace and understanding between religious and cultural groups. Building understanding bridges may help solve problems.

India supports Palestine and condemns Israeli war crimes for historical, moral, legal, and geopolitical reasons. India stands for justice, peace, and international law. India supports a just and durable Israel-Palestine peace deal and the prevention of war crimes and human rights violations while retaining its connection with Israel.

Remember that the Israel-Palestine conflict is complex and multifaceted. Know the facts, be peaceful, and respect others. Justice, human rights, and an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict should be the ultimate goal.
