Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for Neeraj Chopra on social media after the star javelin thrower finally breached the long-anticipated 90-metre mark.
In a heartfelt post, the Prime Minister acknowledged the athlete’s commitment and hard work, congratulating him on a historic achievement at the Doha Diamond League 2025.
“A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Chopra reached a personal milestone by launching the javelin to a distance of 90.23 metres on his third attempt, a throw that finally pushed him past the elusive 90m barrier. Despite this incredible performance, the 27-year-old Olympic and World Championship medallist finished second in the tightly contested event, with Germany’s Julian Weber edging him out for the top spot in a thrilling finale.
By achieving the 90m mark, Neeraj Chopra entered an elite group of javelin throwers—becoming only the 25th athlete globally and the third Asian to do so. His achievement places him among legends of the sport, including his current coach, Czech great Jan Zelezny, widely regarded as one of the best javelin throwers in history.
Though the gold slipped away this time, Chopra’s performance marks a significant moment not just in his career but in Indian sports history, further solidifying his status as a global athletics icon.
