Nawaz Sharif has claimed victory in Pakistan’s national elections. He said the country has to take active steps to come out of its current crisis.
Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has claimed victory in the national election. The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) party chief said Pakistan needed to make active efforts to turn its problem around, and all institutions should help. He did not reveal how many seats his party had won among the 265 seats that went to the polls.
Nawaz Sharif stated his deputies will discuss building a coalition government with other parties.
“We don’t have enough of a majority to form a government without others, so we invite allies to join the coalition so we can work together to fix Pakistan,” he added.
This comes after his party’s senior leader indicated they will negotiate a coalition with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s outfit. On Samaa TV, Nawaz Sharif’s close aide Ishaq Dar made the comments.
He stated PML-N is “in a position” to create a government and will win nearly 90% of the 265 seats.
Results are in for 156 National Assembly seats. The election commission said that Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf won 62 seats and Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League won 46. If a party wins 110 extra seats, it needs 169 to create a majority government.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) blamed a day-long government mobile network disruption during voting for the delay. Imran Khan’s party accused votes of being tampered with to assure Nawaz Sharif’s victory because to the lengthy process.
