Police Crackdown: 218 kg ‘Ganja’ Seized in Uttarakhand Ambulance Case

When the ambulance stopped by police, the driver said they were taking the patient to Ramnagar in an emergency and that they were trying to hurry past the check post with the siren on.

According to an official, the Uttarakhand Police detained a guy for reportedly driving an ambulance in Almora carrying 218 kg of “ganja,” an extremely strong strain of cannabis.  Roshan Lal (38), a native of the Pauri Garhwal area, was recognised as the ambulance driver.

The ambulance was seen approaching the Mohaan check post on 6 November with its siren activated, according to Madan Mohan Joshi, the in-charge of Bhatroujkhan. In a hurry, the motorist attempted to past the checkpost. We pulled over the ambulance and asked the driver about the patient they were transporting. According to the driver, they were transporting the patient in an emergency to Ramnagar. But as we peered through the window, we saw that there was no patient inside the ambulance. The individual seated next to the driver started running in Marchula’s direction just as we were ready to begin the complete inspection.

Following that, the police searched the car and found the drug.

“We questioned the driver about the many bags we discovered inside the ambulance. The sacks included veggies, he claimed. But when we opened them up, we discovered 218 kg of ganja there. Its market worth is around ₹ 33 lakh, according to Joshi.

He stated, “We arrested the driver and booked him under relevant sections of the NDPS Act,” and that Dharmendra, the driver’s accomplice, was being sought for. After being questioned, the culprit told the police he was moving the drug from Saraikhet to Kashipur.

Four persons were detained by the Dehradun Police in March of this year on suspicion of driving an ambulance carrying twenty cartons of illegally manufactured spirits from the nation. The accused had been apprehended by a squad from the Ranipokhari police station during a checking drive on the evenings of March 30 and 31.
