According to police, a child girl who was reportedly sexually assaulted by a sub-inspector in Assam’s Nalbari district has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The girl claimed that when a Sub-inspector in Assam urged her to take off her clothes, she refused. (An exemplary file image) Police officials claim that a 17-year-old girl filed a FIR (first information report) on June 26 against the sub-inspector of the Ghograpar police station in Nalbari.
She said that the policeman had abused her sexually. On Friday, GP Singh, the director general of the Assam police (DGP), announced that a complaint had been filed against a police official, the identity of whom he withheld.

In this regard, a case has been filed under Nalbari PS Case No. 287/2023, in accordance with Sections 354(B)/509 of the IPC and Sections 12/14(1) of the POCSO Act.
According to the girl’s grievance, on June 21 evening, a male officer asked her to remove her clothes to which she denied.
“The officer endangered me and hence I got scared and removed my clothes. SI has clicked my naked picture and tried to annoy me with his rude gesture,” she suspected.
