“Political Firestorm: Kerala Chief Minister Accused of Supporting Extremists”

The BJP claims that the Kerala government is supporting terrorists and persecuting patriots. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticised the Kerala government, guided by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, for filing a First Information Report (FIR) against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar.Chandrasekhar is charged in the FIR with fomenting religious hatred. Shehzad Poonawalla, the national spokesperson for the BJP, denounced the Kerala government’s actions, saying they protect radicals while punishing nationalists with baseless accusations.

Poonawalla accused the Kerala government of engaging in vote-bank politics and failing to act against proponents of global jihad and organizations such as Hamas. He claimed that the government covers up the acts of Islamist terrorists and permits extremist elements to function freely. He further asserted that the Kerala administration had acted in a similar manner in the past. They were criticized by Poonawalla for allegedly granting organizations like the Popular Front of India (PFI), which is charged with encouraging Islamist jihad, a free pass. He further charged that the government was applying different regulations to nationalists and radicals, thus enforcing double standards.

Similar remarks were made by K Surendran, the chief of the BJP’s Kerala branch, who said that the Vijayan government was acting with double standards and in favour of radical and polarizing forces. Following recent explosions in Kochi and a virtual speech by a Hamas leader at an event, Kerala police filed a case against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar for allegedly uttering remarks that encouraged animosity between various groups. Following recent explosions in Kochi and a virtual speech by a Hamas official at an event hosted by an Islamist outfit in Malappuram, the Kerala police filed a case against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar for allegedly making remarks that encouraged animosity between various groups. Sections 153 (a) and 120 (o) of the Kerala Police Act and the Indian Penal Code are the charges against him.

After Chandrasekhar accused Kerala’s chief minister of being tolerant of extremist forces, the controversy grew more intense. He denounced Vijayan for playing the politics of appeasement, especially after the explosion that killed people in Kochi’s Kalamassery neighbourhood. As their physical sparring intensified, the union minister attacked Vijayan and the state minister, calling Chandrasekhar “extremely toxic.” Whatever their position, Vijayan emphasised once more that anyone found uttering illegal remarks will face legal action. The Kerala government’s response to situations involving political and religious sensitivities has come under fire from the BJP, sparking a political storm.
