On August 8, 2023, the government of Pakistan will be dissolved, according to the ruling coalition. According to local channel Geo News TV, the polling date will be made public soon.

According to Geo News, an agreement has been reached between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to dissolve the government on August 8, 2023. The date for the dissolution of the lower house of the Pakistani parliament, according to information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, has not yet been determined.

“A date for the National Assembly’s dissolution has not yet been determined. The PDM and other related parties will be consulted before choosing a date. The communications minister tweeted that the date for the National Assembly’s dissolution would be formally announced.

Four days after the parties formally dissolve the government, on August 12, 2023, the coalition government’s five-year mandate comes to an end.

According to Pakistani law, the assembly must be dissolved after 48 hours if the president is unable to approve the report. This would give the government enough time to accomplish its objective of hasty dissolution.

The law also stipulated that the general elections were to take place within 60 days of the day the government was dissolved. Elections must be held within 90 days, nevertheless, if the parliament is dissolved before it has finished its mandate.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, had declared that he will cede his position to a “caretaker government” on July 14, 2023. Prior to the country’s national elections, the Pakistani government was dissolved.
