Ahead of the 2025–2026 domestic season, Maharashtra’s unpopular opener Prithvi Shaw has maintained his patchy play. Shaw has amassed two fifties in three innings since leaving Mumbai.

While the rest of the Maharashtra team only scored 92 runs against Chhattisgarh, he stood out with a valiant 111 off 141 on a shifting pitch at the Buchi Babu Tournament. He was dismissed for just one run in the second innings, though, as Chhattisgarh won by 35 runs, indicating a decline in his form. Shaw later displayed glimmers of his deft touch in a Buchi Babu Invitational match against the TNCA President’s XI at Gojan Cricket Ground “B.”

Shaw’s half-century gave Maharashtra a great start

Amazing hundreds from Andre Siddharth C (111) and Baba Indrajith (104), as well as a solid 76 off 134 from captain Pradosh Ranjan Paul, helped the TNCA Presidents XI record 384/9 in their opening innings.

Shaw responded with a half-century to give Maharashtra a solid start. He hit the milestone on the first delivery of the day, having started the day on 47 off 57 balls.

Prithvi Shaw and Harshal Kate combined for 94 runs to help Maharashtra reach 155/2. Once in a great position, Maharashtra lost it when Shaw was removed by Achyuth C V for 66 off 96, giving the TNCA President’s XI the advantage. Wisden said that Maharashtra was struggling at 159/4 after Kate was also dismissed at 62 shortly after.

Shaw hopes to maintain his strong play into the forthcoming domestic campaign

After a difficult season last year, the 25-year-old will want to maintain his strong play in the forthcoming games. Shaw’s problems worsened after he failed to sell at the IPL 2025 auction, following his exclusion from Mumbai’s squad due to fitness and disciplinary issues. In the end, he returned to the Mumbai T20 League with the North Mumbai Panthers, scoring 137 runs at an average of 27.40 in five games.
