Asim Arun, a former IPS officer and minister for Uttar Pradesh, revealed on Friday the moving story of a police officer who joined the UP Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS)’s elite Special Police Operations Team (SPOT).
Asim Arun wrote a thorough essay on X on how, at first, only male UP Police personnel were permitted to participate in the entrance procedure. This changed when Priyanka Panwar approached him and expressed interest in joining the SPOT squad.
A wrestler, Priyanka became a member of the Uttar Pradesh Police in 2011 and in 2017 she was assigned to the SPOT unit.
“Introducing Priyanka Panwar, a commando from the Uttar Pradesh Police ATS’s Special Police Operations Team (SPOT). Her journey to become a commando is a fascinating one as well.
“Names of interested parties were gathered from various police and PAC when Yogi ji gave me the order to create SPOT as ATS head. The test used to be taken by a large number of male police officers. It was a challenging exam that few people were able to pass. The SPOT inspector informed me one day that a female had also arrived to do the test. How should I proceed?” The post appeared, loosely translated from Hindi.
“Tell him to give this gal a call. Then I saw Priyanka for the first time in front of me. “Sir, I am a wrestler and I will also become a commando,” she declared. The girl was fit for athletics and exuberant. I thought I had erred greatly since we had neglected to request applications that included the availability of female police personnel,” Arun said.
“We corrected the mistake and allowed Priyanka to take the test. Priyanka got selected and attended the SPOT training,” Asim Arun stated.
“Priyanka did an excellent job, and other girls were inspired by her to join the SPOT team and take part in risky missions. And our girls are no less than everyone else when it comes to efficiency or taking risks,” Asim Arun stated in the post’s last section on X.
