Public Safety First: Karnataka Government Boosts Covid Testing in Light of JN.1 Variant

A significant portion of the new infections recorded over the previous week have been linked to Karnataka, a bordering state of Kerala, which was alarmed when 34 COVID-19 cases of the JN.1 variety surfaced. Twenty of the 34 JN.1 cases were found in Bengaluru on their own.

This morning, members of the Technical Advisory Committee and the four-member Cabinet Sub-Committee on COVID, led by State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, convened to deliberate on potential steps to address the state’s COVID crisis.

The latest spike in infections is thought to be caused by JN.1, even though specialists advise against worrying too much about the variety. Official data from the past day revealed 125 new cases and three more deaths in Karnataka. During that day, 412 new cases were reported nationwide. As of right now, there are 4,170 active cases nationwide, with 436 of those cases occurring in Karnataka.

Mr. Rao had stated yesterday that no restrictions would be imposed at this time, but he advised people to exercise caution. “As we increase tests, if more positive cases are recorded, we will decide on further measures that need to be taken. There is no need for imposing any curbs or restrictions now,” he stated.
