Minister of NRI affairs for Punjab, Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal, has asked for the central government’s help as 700 Indian students are being deported from Canada. Dhaliwal is looking to meet Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar over the issue.
Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal, the minister of NRI affairs for Punjab, asked S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, for help on Tuesday about the case of 700 Indian students who might be expelled from Canada.
Dhaliwal wrote a letter to Jaishankar, in which he said he wants to meet him to solve the issue. After discovering that universities received fake “admission offer letters”, Canada may deport 700 Indian students, mostly from Punjab.
When these students sought for Canadian permanent status in March, the issue became public. To personally bring the issue to the GOI’s notice, Dhaliwal stated, “I have also sought time to meet with EAM.”
Dhaliwal wrote to the EAM that the fraudsters duped 700 innocent students. In order to prevent these students from being deported, Dhaliwal said, “I’d appreciate it if you looked into it again and raised it with the Canadian High Commission and government.”
He added that these students shouldn’t be expelled and should instead be issued work permits. Dhaliwal also pleaded with the people of Punjab to examine the credentials of the college and the track record of the travel agent before traveling overseas or sending their children to study there.
