In connection with a money laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate is raiding nine sites in Delhi, including the home of AAP leader and Delhi minister Raaj Kumar Anand.
The Enforcement Directorate, looking into the money laundering aspect of the alleged liquor scandal, has called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to interview him. On November 2, he is expected to appear before the Central Agency’s office in Delhi.
Raaj Kumar Anand, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and cabinet member for Delhi, has had searches at his home by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering investigation. In relation to the case, the investigation team is conducting raids at nine different sites in Delhi.
Anand may have been involved in a hawala transaction, and the searches are connected to a customs issue. According to PTI, which cited ED sources, raids are taking place at the minister’s residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines neighborhood as well as a few other sites.
Anand, 57, is an MLA from Patel Nagar who serves as the Delhi government’s AAP-led minister for social welfare and SC/ST welfare, among other positions.
The raids at Anand’s residence occur only a few hours before Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP and chief minister of Delhi, is expected to testify before the ED about the liquor policy scandal. Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal’s colleague and former deputy minister for Delhi, is already incarcerated in connection with the same issue. Sanjay Singh, a former minister for Delhi and another AAP politician, is incarcerated in connection with the liquor policy case.
According to the CBI, spirits businesses were involved in formulating the excise policy, which would have resulted in a profit margin of 12%. It called the spirits lobby the “South Group” because it had paid payments, some of which went to government employees. The Enforcement Directorate purportedly laundered the kickbacks.
The BJP has claimed that AAP utilized the money from the purported scam to finance its extensive campaign in Gujarat, where it secured 12.91 percent of the vote and made a name for itself as a national party.
