Railway Board to slash AC chair car, executive class fares by up to 25%

Rail fare reduction: According to a Railway Board directive, prices for AC chair cars and executive classes on all trains, including Vande Bharat, with less than 50% occupancy, would be slashed by up to 25%.

The discount shall go into effect right away.

Additionally, there will be trains with Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches.
The prices will be determined by those of rival forms of transportation.

The rail ministry has decided to give main chief commercial managers of railway zones authority to implement discounted pricing programs on trains with AC seats in order to maximize the use of available space, according to the directive.

It stated, “This scheme shall be applicable in AC chair car and executive classes of all trains having AC seating accommodation, including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches.

Discounts should not exceed 25% of the basic ticket. The reservation charge, super fast premium, GST, etc. will be levied separately. It claimed that any course may receive a discount depending on occupancy.

The regulation further states, “classes with occupancy less than 50% (either end-to-end or in some specified legs/sections depending on the sections where discount is to be provided) during the last 30 days shall be taken into consideration.”

Senior officials said that the program will also apply to Vande Bharat trains. Except for a few low-occupancy trains, most semi-high-speed train services are operating at full capacity, according to government statistics.

At the end of June, a source says that 29% of seats on the Bhopal-Indore Vande Bharat service and 21% on the return route were full.

Like the Nagpur-Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express, which has an average occupancy of 55%, the Bhopal-Jabalpur Express, with 32% occupancy, and the return trip, with 36% occupancy, are likely to see rail fare reductions.

Conclusion:

A Railway Board directive aims to reduce prices for AC chair cars and executive classes on trains with less than 50% occupancy, including Vande Bharat, by up to 25%. The discount will apply to all AC seats, including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches.

The rail ministry has given main commercial managers authority to implement discounted pricing programs to maximize available space. The discount should not exceed 25% of the basic ticket price, and other fees, such as reservation fees and GST, will be assessed individually. The program will also apply to Vande Bharat trains.
