July 11, Rajkummar Rao’s mafia drama made its theatrical debut. Although fans were thrilled to see the actor play a part that was different from his typical roles, the movie might not have had as much of an impact on viewers. It had a slow start at the box office, making less on its first day than his last release, Bhool Chuk Maaf.

The box office performance of Maalik

In contrast to Bhool Chuk Maaf, which made ₹ seven crore on its first day of business, Maalik only made ₹3.48 crore on Day 1, according to trade tracking website Sacnilk. Additionally, the profits are less than those of John Abraham’s The Diplomat, which brought in ₹ four crore on Day 1.

Even yet, the movie did better at the box office than Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor’s romance drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which brought in just ₹32 lakh. Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, makes her Bollywood debut in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which was directed by Santosh Singh and written by Mansi Bagla.

About Maalik

Prosenjit Chatterjee, Manushi Chhillar, and Rajkummar Rao play the title roles in this Pulkit-directed movie, which Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani also produced. In important roles are Swanand Kirkire, Rajendra Gupta, Anshumaan Pushkar, Saurabh Sachdeva, Saurabh Shukla, and Baljinder Kaur. Critics gave the movie mixed reviews. Although Rao received accolades for his performance, many were let down by the movie’s formulaic plot.

An excerpt from the Hindustan Times review of Maalik reads: “Despite its shortcomings, Maalik stands strong, much like its hero, punching above its weight thanks to Rao’s blazing intensity. Maalik might appeal to you if you like to watch a well-known tale with a modern twist. And who knows, this epic might soar higher and roar louder with a more tightly wound sequel.
