Randeep Hooda recently voiced his concerns about the state of Bollywood, stressing the urgent need for a change in perspective. In a candid interview, he criticized the industry’s tendency to follow trends blindly rather than focusing on originality. According to him, South Indian filmmakers have managed to achieve success by staying true to their cultural roots, a practice Bollywood should learn from.
Expressing his disappointment over the industry’s approach, Randeep Hooda described Bollywood’s “bhedh chaal” (herd mentality) during an interview. He observed that filmmakers are quick to replicate anything that finds success instead of striving for fresh and unique content. “If one thing succeeds, similar projects start getting made. Sabko wahi banaana hai,” he remarked. As an actor, he believes there should be no rigid parameters, but the industry’s current framework leaves little room for creative experimentation.
Hooda also took a strong stand against Bollywood’s growing obsession with gym-toned physiques over authentic storytelling. Comparing the industry to the South Indian film space, he cited Pushpa as an example. “Pushpa doesn’t have six-pack abs, he has a beard and a crooked shoulder. Whereas, the so-called elite filmmakers and actors are busy making abs. They are not going into characterisation and finding the character. They are just not making character-driven films,” he stated.
Through his remarks, Randeep Hooda has highlighted the pressing need for Bollywood to focus on meaningful narratives and deep character exploration rather than superficial trends, urging a return to the essence of impactful storytelling.
