Ranveer Singh Refused Kabir Singh & Then It Went To Shahid, Here’s Why

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the famous director is gearing up for the release of his next movie, Animal which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in important roles. The movie is slated to release on 1 December and it will clash with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur which is based on the life story of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw.

Sandeep’s last release was Kabir Singh (2019) which was also a big hit, the movie made news for some wrong reasons too as it was slammed for being toxic but it was loved by the majority of the audiences, especially youngsters. The lead role in Kabir Singh was played by Shahid Kapoor but do you know that Shahid was not the first choice for this role?

Before Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh was approached for this role but he refused to do the movie as it was “too dark”.

During an interview, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said, “I was continuously getting calls from Mumbai to do the remake. First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. But finally, he decided he will not do it, because it was too dark for him at that time.”

Sandeep also revealed why his decision to cast Shahid was opposed by many, he said, “Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then, his highest was Rs 65 crore. They used to say Rs 55 crore, Rs 65 crore is the kind of business Telugu movies do. ‘Why are you doing it with this guy? If it was Ranveer, the box office would be higher’. But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor.”

Needless to say, Shahid Kapoor played the character of Kabir Singh to perfection, agree?
