Battery life has quietly become one of the biggest battlegrounds in smartphones — and the new Realme 16 5G is clearly designed with that in mind. Launched in India on April 2, the device packs a massive 7,000mAh battery inside a surprisingly slim body while also offering a 50MP portrait camera system, 120Hz AMOLED display, and Realme’s new performance optimisation engine.

Realme 16 5G Launch in India: Price, Variants and Availability

The Realme 16 5G officially debuted in India today with two storage configurations.

The base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at ₹31,999, while the higher-end model offering 12GB RAM and 256GB storage costs ₹36,999.

Pre-orders for the device opened on April 2, with shipments scheduled to begin from April 5.

The smartphone is available in two colour options — Air White and Air Black, both featuring a minimalist design and a distinctive rear camera bar.

7000mAh Battery and 60W Charging Take Center Stage

The headline feature of the Realme 16 5G is its massive 7,000mAh battery, which the company claims can deliver up to two days of usage on a single charge.

Despite the large battery capacity, the phone remains relatively slim at 8.1mm thick and weighs 183 grams — an engineering balance that smartphone brands are increasingly chasing as consumers demand longer battery life without bulky devices.

The phone also supports 60W fast charging, allowing users to quickly top up the battery when needed.

This growing emphasis on endurance reflects a wider trend in the smartphone market where battery longevity is becoming as important as camera quality or processing power.

AMOLED Display With 120Hz Refresh Rate and High Brightness

On the front, the device features a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, designed to deliver smoother scrolling and gaming performance.

The panel can reach up to 4,200 nits of peak brightness, making it easier to view the screen even under bright outdoor lighting conditions.

Combined with the high refresh rate, the display aims to offer a visually vibrant experience whether users are streaming video, browsing social media, or playing games.

50MP Portrait Master Camera and Selfie Mirror Design

Photography is another area where the Realme is placing strong emphasis.

The device includes 50MP sensors on both the rear and front, with the company positioning it as a “Portrait Master” camera system aimed at delivering sharper portrait shots.

An unusual design element on the rear camera bar is a selfie mirror, which helps users frame selfies using the rear camera for higher-quality photos.

Several AI-powered photography features are also included to improve portrait shots, optimise lighting conditions, and enhance image clarity.

Dimensity 6400 Turbo Chipset and Flux Engine Performance

Powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Turbo, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The phone runs Android 16 with Realme UI 7.0, the company’s latest software interface.

Realme has also introduced a performance optimisation system called Flux Engine, which it claims helps maintain smoother performance over time by intelligently managing resources and reducing system slowdowns.

It’s a small feature on paper. But over time, it can make a noticeable difference in everyday usage.

Slim Design With IP69 Durability Rating

Despite its large battery and performance hardware, the smartphone maintains a slim and lightweight design.

At 8.1mm thickness and 183 grams, the device aims to strike a balance between durability and portability.

The phone also carries an IP69 rating, offering protection against dust and water splashes — a durability standard that is gradually becoming more common in mid-range smartphones.

With its combination of a 7000mAh battery, slim design, and AI-driven performance features, the Realme 16 5G reflects a growing shift in the smartphone market toward endurance-focused devices. As battery expectations continue to rise, phones like this may set the new benchmark for everyday usability.
