Reena Roy’s Childhood Crush on Rajesh Khanna: A Fan-Turned-Co-Star Story

Rajesh Khanna, often hailed as India’s first superstar, captivated the nation with his charm, especially among female fans. One of his admirers was none other than Reena Roy, a leading actress of the 70s and 80s Bollywood, who was a self-proclaimed die-hard fan of Khanna.

In a past episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Reena Roy revealed her fangirl obsession with Rajesh Khanna. When host Kapil Sharma asked why her mother didn’t allow her to watch Khanna’s films, Reena shared a relatable reason. As a young girl, she would often skip school and stand outside Khanna’s residence with friends, hoping to catch a glimpse of the superstar.

She recounted, “As a child, I had immense love for Rajesh Khanna’s movies, and my infatuation drove me to take some drastic measures.” She even admitted to emptying her and her sister’s piggy banks just to watch his films.

Reena Roy’s journey took a remarkable turn when she not only entered Bollywood but also had the opportunity to work alongside her childhood crush. Reflecting on this, she stated, “Life truly has a remarkable way of fulfilling our deepest desires.”

The two went on to share the screen in films like Dhanwan and Asha Jyoti. Released in 1981, Dhanwan, directed by Surendra Mohan, starred Rajesh Khanna and Reena Roy in the lead roles, with supporting actors such as Aruna Irani, Rakesh Roshan, and Shakti Kapoor. Produced by Sohanlal Kanwar, the film’s music was composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
