The makers of the classic Hindi film Umrao Jaan hosted a star-studded private screening in Mumbai before its re-release. Those in attendance included celebrities such as Anil Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle, Jackie Shroff, Tabu, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and AR Rahman.

Several videos and images from the event, showcasing the stars’ glamorous attire, were posted online. What drew our attention were the gorgeous anarkali ensembles of Bollywood celebrities. Let us examine our favourites:

Rekha

For her film’s special screening event, the veteran actor chose a regal costume in gold and ivory tones. Rekha opted for a deconstructed Anarkali style for the occasion, which includes a sheer white kurta with gota patti embroidery, full-length sleeves, mirror embellishments, and side slits. She wore it atop a lehenga skirt made of gold sheer organza with patti borders. Her ensemble was completed with gold churidar pants, a gajra-adorned hairstyle, a mang tika, a choker necklace, jhumkis, bangles, and a potli bag.

Tabu

During the Umrao Jaan special re-release screening, Tabu delivered a strikingly subtle yet powerful message. She donned a subdued ivory-gold outfit that mirrored the classic elegance of the movie. She wore a delicately flared Anarkali-style kurta with glistening gold threadwork and elaborate organza chikankari embroidery. The outfit consisted of a matching dupatta gently draped over one shoulder and well-tailored churidar trousers. Tabu effortlessly combined refinement with a nod to vintage movie style by accessorising with simple pearl-studded earrings, wearing her hair in a sophisticated low bun, and finishing the ensemble with nude-toned juttis and subtle, neutral makeup.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt honoured Rekha’s Silsila appearance at the Umrao Jaan special screening by wearing a stunning blush-pink chiffon saree by Tarun Tahiliani. A distinctive waterfall-draped high-neck shirt with cap sleeves completed the look, fusing modern and vintage styles. A delicate silhouette that exuded timeless appeal was maintained by the saree’s delicate pleating and one-shoulder draping. She accented the ensemble with a diamond ring, a light bracelet, and feather drop earrings, as well as a blush pink clutch. Her makeup and hairstyle, which included a small black bindi, soft pink blush, a dewy base, glossy lips, and open, mid-parted hair, perfectly reflected the elegance of traditional Bollywood.

Janhvi Kapoor

At the Umrao Jaan special screening, Janhvi Kapoor wore an ivory and beige Anarkali outfit. The ensemble features delicate Chikanakri embroidery, mirror work, patti borders, a flared Anarkali skirt, and a kurta with a plunging sweetheart neckline, all of which are highlights. She accessorised it with churidar pants and a lavishly embroidered dupatta draped over her arm and folded on her shoulders. Luxurious jhumkis, flowing hair, embellished jutti sandals, and sparse makeup completed her ensemble.

Nushrratt Bharuccha

When Nushrratt Bharuccha arrived at the Umrao Jaan screening wearing a beige anarkali dress with floral embroidery, she epitomised style. The floor-length hem, full-length sleeves, flowing skirt, fitted bodice, and red and gold embroidered flowers are all features of the traditional anarkali-style gown. She accessorised the ensemble with delicate gems, a touch of bling, and a neat ponytail topped with a rose.

Fatima Sana Shaikh

Wearing a classic anarkali suit ensemble, Fatima Sana Shaikh attended the special screening. She was dressed in an organza outfit with beautiful floral appliqué. She accessorized with a sleek hairstyle, glossy pink lips, jhumkis, and a dewy, makeup-free face.
