“Relax & Learn From Rohit”, Indian Legend’s Advice For Star Batter, Virat Kohli

Former Indian captain and coach Anil Kumble has expressed his views on Virat Kohli’s current form, suggesting that the star batsman may be overexerting himself in an attempt to regain his rhythm. Kumble believes that Kohli should take inspiration from Rohit Sharma’s composed approach, trust in India’s strong batting lineup, and ease the pressure he has placed upon himself.

Kohli’s struggles continued in India’s opening match of the 2025 Champions Trophy against Bangladesh, where he managed only 22 runs. This marked his 12th consecutive innings without a century, a dry spell that began after the first Test in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His dismissal, a mistimed cut shot against leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, once again highlighted his recurring difficulty against deliveries turning away from him.

Kumble pointed out that Kohli’s batting approach appears strained, emphasizing that he needs to let go of his worries and trust his natural game. He noted that players often face challenging phases in their careers, and Kohli seems to be putting undue pressure on himself, which is affecting his performance.

The former coach highlighted the importance of confidence, particularly when facing spin on tricky surfaces. He observed that Kohli, known for his ability to rotate the strike and play spin effectively, is currently focusing too much on scoring rather than playing his natural game. Kumble suggested that Kohli should not dwell on expectations and instead, approach the game with a more relaxed mindset.

As India prepares to take on Pakistan in their next Champions Trophy match on February 23, all eyes will be on Kohli to see if he can regain his confidence and deliver a strong performance.
