Former Australian cricket captain and legendary batsman Ricky Ponting has made his prediction for the much-anticipated 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between Australia and India.
Scheduled to kick off on November 22 in Perth, the five-match Test series will continue with matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Ponting, known as Australia’s top run-scorer in Tests and ODIs, believes that Australia will secure a 3-1 victory, bringing an end to India’s decade-long hold on the trophy.
Ricky Ponting, speaking on The ICC Review, expressed confidence in Australia’s chances at home. He acknowledged that while India may win one Test, Australia’s experience and consistency would ultimately prevail. “I think India will win a Test match somewhere through the five Test matches,” Ponting said. He continued, “But I still think now, Australia probably look a bit more settled, a bit more experienced, and we know that they’re a very hard team to beat at home. So, I’ll stick with the 3-1.”
This prediction is consistent with Ponting’s earlier forecast in August, where he anticipated that the 2023 World Test Championship winners would reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home soil.
