Many of us try to determine whether a fruit is sufficiently ripe when we go fruit shopping. Ripe fruits have a higher flavour and can provide you with more nutrients and fiber. Pomegranates provide a multitude of benefits for the summertime. Their high nutritional content, along with their abundance of vitamins C, E, K, folate, and potassium, make them a valuable supplement to any diet. Their potent antioxidants, which lower inflammation and shield cells from harm, are found in their polyphenols. Because pomegranate juice has anti-inflammatory qualities, it can enhance blood flow and help reduce cholesterol accumulation in arteries, according to nutritionist and Nutracy Lifestyle creator Dr. Rohini Patil.
Pomegranate fibre helps promote gut health by lowering inflammation and facilitating digestion, which is advantageous for diseases like Crohn’s disease and IBS (inflammatory bowel syndrome). According to certain research, pomegranates may improve memory. Furthermore, studies suggest that pomegranate juice taken on a regular basis may inhibit the formation of prostate cancer cells. Pomegranate juice can aid improve the transport of oxygen to muscles prior to exercise, according to Dr. Patil.
How may pomegranates be included?
Add ripe pomegranates to salads, smoothies, or as a garnish for different foods to add some pomegranate flavour to your summer diet. “You can take advantage of their many health benefits and enjoy their refreshing taste,” Dr. Patil stated.
How to select a pomegranate that is just right
Analyse the pomegranate’s shape: A healthy one should be shaped like a hexagon and have ridges that are clearly visible through the skin. According to Butani, an unripe one will be spherical and smooth with no visible ridges.
Butani advised that the pomegranate’s weight be verified. “An unripe one will be lighter, and it should be heavy with all the juice packed inside the seeds,” Butani stated. Dr. Patil advised choosing pomegranates based on their weight and skin condition because ripe ones are ready to be consumed right away.
