Rohit Sharma Opens Up On Using Record-Equalling 9 Bowlers During IND-NED

The Indian cricket team ensured that they continue with their winning streak in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as they defeated Netherlands by 160 runs in their last league match which was played yesterday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad was already into the semi-finals of the tournament, still they played the match against Netherlands with full seriousness but what left many people surprised was the fact that Rohit Sharma made record-equalling 9 players including himself bowl in this match. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took 1-1 wicket each, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav also bowled 2-2 overs during the match.

After the match, Rohit Sharma spoke on why he used part-timers in this match, “When you have five bowlers, you want to create those options within the team. Today we had nine (bowling) options, it’s important, this was the game where we could have tried certain things.”

He further added, “The seamers bowling those wide yorkers when it was not needed, but we wanted to do that. As a bowling unit, we wanted to try doing something different and see what we can achieve.”

As far as the match is concerned, India posted a big total of 410/4 on the scoreboard with the help of brilliant knocks of Shreyas Iyer (128*) and KL Rahul (102 runs). In response, Netherlands could manage only 250 runs before the team got all-out in the 48th over.

India will face New Zealand in the first semi-finals which will be played on 15th November at Wankhede Stadium.
