Rohit Shetty cop universe, which started with the release of Singham in 2011, has grown into a much-loved franchise with titles like Singham Returns, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi. The concept of a cinematic universe was still unfamiliar to Hindi film audiences when Singham first premiered, yet over time, Shetty has built a cohesive and popular storyline connecting these movies. The latest entry, Singham Again, which released this Diwali, has already surpassed the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office.
A highlight of Singham Again is the introduction of Deepika Padukone as Lady Singham, aka Shakti Shetty—the first female cop character in the series. In an interview, Rohit Shetty discussed why it took him so long to bring a female lead into his cop universe. “The wait was to get the right script and the right kind of launch for the character,” Rohit Shetty explained. “Till 2018, I wasn’t even sure if there’s going to be a cop universe.”
Regarding the prospect of a standalone film centered on Lady Singham, Rohit Shetty disclosed, “We still have to write it. We do have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it. There’s still time for that.” He elaborated that while he has envisioned aspects of the character and her basic story arc, he is still working on the specifics. “But a female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen; otherwise, we wouldn’t have introduced her at all. There’s a reason why we’ve emphasised on that character and her name in Singham Again,” he noted.
