As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season approaches, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been evaluating their plans for the youngest recruit in tournament history, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 13-year-old sensation made headlines when he secured a contract with RR for a staggering Rs 1.10 crore during last year’s auction in Jeddah, setting a record as the youngest player ever to be signed in the league.
Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise in the 2024 season saw him dominate both domestic and international cricket. His performance for Bihar against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 was a testament to his potential, as he smashed 71 runs off 42 balls to become the youngest Indian to score a List A fifty. On the international stage, he showcased his extraordinary talent by registering the fastest youth Test century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 58 balls against Australia in Chennai. The left-handed batter further proved his worth in India’s journey to the ACC U19 Asia Cup final, where he played a crucial role with two half-centuries.
RR batting coach Vikram Rathour spoke highly of the young talent, emphasizing that with dedication and perseverance, he could achieve great heights in cricket. However, Rathour also acknowledged that Suryavanshi’s debut in the IPL would depend on several factors, including team strategy and match conditions.
“I am not sure if we will use him or not, it will depend on the strategy, the surface and the opposition. We acquired his services because he is a very special player. He has a lot of ability, he may be young but I have hardly ever seen a player this young to possess the power he has. The signs are great and if he works hard I am sure he will be a big player,” said Rathour in a press conference on Tuesday.
While Suryavanshi’s IPL debut remains uncertain, the franchise remains optimistic about his future. With his remarkable performances and raw talent, he continues to be a promising prospect for Rajasthan Royals and Indian cricket.
