Popular TV actress Rupali Ganguly, best known for her role in the series Anupamaa, has filed a defamation suit against her stepdaughter, Esha Verma. This legal action follows Esha’s public accusations that Rupali Ganguly caused the breakdown of her parents’ marriage and allegedly mistreated both her and her mother. The dispute has drawn widespread attention, bringing both family dynamics and personal grievances into the public sphere.
Esha Verma is the daughter of Ashwin K Verma from his second marriage to Sapna Verma, whom he divorced in 2008. Ashwin married Rupali Ganguly in 2013, and the couple has a son, Rudransh. The controversy first arose when a 2020 social media post by Esha resurfaced, in which she accused Rupali Ganguly of having an affair with Ashwin while he was still married to her mother. Esha also described Rupali Ganguly as “controlling” and “abusive,” claiming she had received death threats from the actress.
On November 11, Rupali Ganguly took legal action, filing a defamation suit with the support of celebrity lawyer Sana Raees Khan, who is also known for her appearance on Bigg Boss 17. Rupali is seeking ₹50 crore in damages, stating that Esha’s public remarks have damaged her personal and professional reputation. Sana Raees Khan’s legal team explained that Rupali Ganguly’s decision to pursue the lawsuit stemmed partly from Esha’s statements involving her son, Rudransh, which Ganguly found intolerable.
Recently, Esha released a video reiterating her accusations. In the video, she alleged that Rupali Ganguly’s involvement with her father had caused lasting difficulties for her and her mother. She detailed the struggles she claims to have faced due to what she described as Rupali Ganguly’s influence over her father and household.
Until now, Ganguly had refrained from addressing these claims publicly. However, with her reputation at stake, she has decided to confront the accusations head-on. Her legal team is working to ensure that the actress’s name is cleared of what they claim are baseless allegations meant to tarnish her image.
