Mohammed Shami has come out swinging against swirling rumors suggesting his imminent retirement from Test cricket. In a rare and emotional response, the Indian fast bowler expressed deep frustration over such claims, saying they have “destroyed his future” and calling on journalists to occasionally “say something good” about him.
The veteran pacer took to Instagram to confront the issue head-on. Sharing a screenshot of a media report that speculated he would follow Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli into retirement, Shami responded with a scathing remark written in Hindi. He didn’t hold back, pouring out his disappointment and anger in a blunt and unsparing tone.
“Very well done maharaj apna job k din bhi gin loo kitna adieu hai badme dekh le hamara ap jaise ne satyiyanash kar diya future ka kabi to accha bol liya kare aaj ka sabse kharab story sorry,” he wrote, essentially telling the reporter to reflect on their own career before publishing such damaging stories about others.
The timing of the rumor mill couldn’t have been more sensitive. Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, followed closely by Virat Kohli on May 12. In the aftermath, media reports—mostly citing anonymous sources—have speculated wildly about who might follow suit.
Among these, some stories suggested that Shami, plagued by fitness concerns in recent months, might be the next high-profile player dropped from India’s Test plans, especially with the upcoming five-Test series in England on the horizon.
For now, though, Mohammed Shami has made his stance crystal clear—and it’s not one of retirement.
