Over three months after the shocking stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, Mumbai’s Bandra Police have filed a detailed 1,000-page chargesheet in court. The police submitted several pieces of crucial evidence, including three parts of a broken knife, which were recovered from the crime scene.
According to the police, the accused, Shariful Islam, has been directly linked to the crime through both forensic and fingerprint reports. The forensic analysis confirmed that the knife fragments found at the scene, from Saif’s injuries, and in the accused’s possession, were all parts of the same weapon.
Police also added that they had recovered a left-hand fingerprint belonging to Islam during their investigation, further strengthening the case. The accused had reportedly traveled from Bangladesh to India, making multiple stops in Kolkata before arriving in Mumbai.
Accused’s Background and Political Angle
Shariful Islam’s father, Anim, claims his son fled Bangladesh due to false criminal charges allegedly filed by the ruling Awami League government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to him, Islam was a victim of political targeting and sought refuge in India to escape persecution and find work.
“He was accused of even minor things like cellphone theft. My son felt unsafe and believed he couldn’t survive in that political climate,” Anim told NDTV.
Saif Ali Khan Breaks Silence
Saif Ali Khan, who has largely remained quiet since the incident, finally opened up about the traumatic event in a conversation with Delhi Times.
“It didn’t really hurt at first because of the adrenaline and shock. But then he started slashing at my neck. I blocked with my hands, and that’s how I got cuts on my palm, wrist, and arm. It was violent—he was slashing with both hands,” Saif recalled.
This horrifying incident has sent shockwaves across the industry and the public. As the legal proceedings unfold, all eyes are now on how the court responds to the evidence gathered over these months.
