Concern has swept through the Hindi film industry following the hospitalisation of legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, 90, who was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 17 after suffering a minor brain haemorrhage. As the veteran writer continues his recovery, Bollywood has shown up — quietly, consistently, and in force.

Aamir Khan and Shilpa Shetty Among Latest to Visit

On Thursday, actor Aamir Khan arrived at Lilavati Hospital accompanied by his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, to personally check on Salim Khan’s condition. Known for his warm and longstanding bond with the Khan family, Aamir made the visit without fanfare, spending time at the hospital before leaving alongside Gauri.

Later the same day, actor Shilpa Shetty was also spotted at the hospital, accompanied by her mother, Sunanda Shetty. A video of Shilpa leaving the premises quickly circulated on social media, adding to a growing list of industry names making the journey to Lilavati in solidarity.

They join several prominent figures who have already visited — among them Sanjay Dutt, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, and actor Iulia Vantur.

What the Doctors Are Saying

Dr. Jalil Parkar, who is overseeing Salim Khan’s treatment, offered a measured but cautiously optimistic update on Wednesday. “There was minimal brain haemorrhage. A small procedure was done and it was accomplished. He is fine and stable but is still on a ventilator,” the doctor told media, adding that removal from the ventilator was expected soon. “By tomorrow, hopefully, we will take him off the ventilator. All in all, he’s doing quite well.”

Dr. Parkar noted that Salim Khan had presented with high blood pressure and was experiencing involuntary jerks at the time of admission on Tuesday morning. He received immediate care upon arrival and underwent a minor procedure the following day.

Family by His Side

Salman Khan was among the first to rush to the hospital upon news of his father’s admission, with photographs showing a visibly worried Salman leaving the premises after visiting. He was joined by family members including Arbaaz Khan, Sshura Khan, Helen, Salma Khan and Alvira Agnihotri — a united front around a family patriarch who has shaped Indian cinema for decades.

cA Legacy That Fills Waiting Rooms

The breadth of Bollywood’s response to Salim Khan’s hospitalisation is telling. Much like the industry rallied around legends such as Dilip Kumar and Rishi Kapoor in their final years, the visitor list at Lilavati reflects a pattern that repeats when someone truly foundational to Hindi cinema faces adversity — the industry doesn’t just send flowers, it shows up. For a man who co-wrote some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema history, from Sholay to Deewaar, perhaps nothing speaks louder than that.

Salim Khan celebrated his 90th birthday on November 24 last year. Prayers and well-wishes continue to pour in from fans and colleagues alike.
