Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently took to Instagram to share a note on behalf of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC). She commended the collective’s relentless efforts in Kerala, which played a crucial role in bringing to light the findings of the Justice K Hema Committee report. This report, which detailed extensive allegations of sexual abuse in the Malayalam film industry, has sparked significant discussions and legal actions.
She praised all those from Kerala who played an important role in getting the report released as she wrote,
“We, the women of the Telugu film industry, welcome the Hema Committee report and applaud the persistent efforts of the WCC in Kerala, which has laid the path to this moment. Taking cue from the WCC, The Voice of Women, a support group for women in the TFI, was created in 2019. We hereby urge the Telangana government to publish the submitted sub committee report on sexual harassment, which can help frame government and industry policies, to establish a safe working environment for women in the TFI. @wcc_cinema.”
The Justice K Hema Committee report uncovered serious allegations of sexual harassment involving male actors, directors, and crew members in the Malayalam film industry. As a result, several female actors have bravely come forward with their experiences, leading to the registration of FIRs against prominent figures such as actor-politician Mukesh, Siddique, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, Idavela Babu, and director Ranjith.
