This weekend, Indian Idol Season 15 will host a special episode to commemorate the first anniversary of the hit film Animal. The celebration will feature Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film’s director, as the guest of honor along with singher Vishal Mishra. Airing on Sony Entertainment Television, the episode promises a blend of music, inspiration, and heartfelt moments, with Vanga sharing untold stories from his life and career.
Contestant Ritika Raj delivered a stirring performance of the song Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage, leaving the director deeply moved. “I never imagined this song in a female voice, but I really liked it,” said Vanga, praising Ritika’s unique interpretation.
During the episode, Ritika asked the celebrated director about his early struggles and how his family supported his dreams.
Vanga opened up about his path to success, revealing his humble beginnings in Sydney, where he worked at McDonald’s and Subway while studying filmmaking. He recounted his determination to succeed, inspired by a challenge he made to his mother to become a director before spending the money he had saved. “It took me 6-7 years, but without my family’s support, Arjun Reddy wouldn’t have happened,” he shared.
Initially pursuing physiotherapy due to societal expectations, Vanga said, “In a South Indian family, you’re expected to be an engineer or a doctor. I didn’t get the marks for MBBS, so I chose physiotherapy. But after the first year, I realized my true passion was storytelling.” This revelation led him to study filmmaking in Sydney, setting the stage for his future successes like Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh.
Singer Shreya Ghoshal joined the conversation, inquiring about his family’s influence on his decision to attend film school. Vanga spoke fondly of his mother’s unwavering support, not only in financing his education but also in producing Arjun Reddy.
Reflecting on his bond with his mother, he said, “In real life, I’m very attached to my mother. If I ever make a mother-son story, it will be filled with positive vibes.”
It will really be a treat to watch when he makes a movie on the mother-son bond, what do you say?
