In 1999, Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Manjrekar delivered Vaastav: The Reality, a gritty gangster drama that struck a chord with audiences and became a milestone in Indian cinema.
Sanjay Dutt’s intense portrayal of Raghu, a simple man who descends into the world of crime, earned widespread acclaim and has since achieved cult status. Often hailed as the original gangster film of Indian cinema, Vaastav set a benchmark for the genre and left a lasting legacy. Now, 26 years later, the iconic duo is preparing to reunite for a highly anticipated sequel.
According to sources, Mahesh Manjrekar has crafted a fresh narrative inspired by the gritty world of Vaastav. While not a direct continuation of the original story, the sequel will expand on the themes and essence that defined the franchise. “It’s a franchise film, not a linear sequel,” revealed an insider. “Mahesh has shared the concept with Sanjay Dutt, who is thrilled to step back into the shoes of Raghu. The screenplay is currently being developed, and Sanjay is eagerly waiting for the final narration,” the source added.
