The Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has started his captaincy stint pretty well as the team has won the first two T20Is of the 3-match series against Sri Lanka and they have already sealed the series by taking an invincible lead of 2-0.
There are many who have questioned the appointment of Suryakumar Yadav as he is 33 yrs old and he is certainly not a long term option but former New Zealand player Scott Styris has called this decision of making SKY skipper a clever one.
While speaking in an interview, Scott stated, “I think he’s a short-term option. I don’t think Gambhir has a natural captain amongst the players that he has right now. He’s buying himself time as to who will be the next long-term captain.”
Scott Styris feels that the selectors are seeing Shubman Gill as their long term option but they have appointed SKY because Gill is not ready at the moment. In his words, “You know, someone like Gill I think could do the job for 10 years for India, but he’s not quite ready right now, so I think it was a really smart decision to bring in someone with a bit more experience.”
He concluded by saying, “If he (SKY) does a decent enough job, then he might be the captain at the next T20 World Cup. And then after that, you can look at Gill or any of the other potential options around. But yeah, I think it’s a really clever decision.”
We also agree with Scott Styris, what about you?
