Search By Date: WhatsApp’s new feature eliminates the need to scroll for messages by date

Meta-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp, has just introduced a feature to improve user experience and chat information retrieval. Known as “Search by Date,” this feature helps users explore their conversation history and find specific messages.

Before this change, navigating through long conversation threads was time-consuming. “Search by Date” reduces this issue by letting users search for messages by date. This functionality lets users filter chat messages by date.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced “Search by Date” on his personal WhatsApp channel to address the massive user base. WhatsApp values this functionality to improve user experience and meet worldwide audience needs. All users on Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and the web-based version can use the feature, assuring widespread accessibility.

Interested in this new feature? Using “Search by Date” on Android or iOS is simple. Start a search in the chat you want to investigate. Android users touch the three-dot menu in the chat window’s top right corner. iOS users must tap the contact or group name at the top of the chat interface. After updating your app, touching the search bar will reveal a small calendar and magnifying glass. This icon launches a pop-up calendar, letting you choose a date and view the messages from that day.

While “Search by Date” speeds up message retrieval, WhatsApp is researching other ways to improve user experience. One option is testing a QR code sharing feature. These QR codes allow WhatsApp users to add contacts without typing phone numbers. You must go to the app’s settings to get your QR code. However, the forthcoming version may include a shortcut for sharing your QR code in the chat interface.

WhatsApp usernames are being developed alongside this release. This feature introduces usernames like those on other social media sites to change how users connect on the network. Instead of phone numbers, usernames will be used to identify people, possibly displayed when exchanging QR codes. This may make WhatsApp more user-friendly and privacy-focused by eliminating phone number exchange.

By making conversation history navigation easier, “Search by Date” shows WhatsApp’s commitment to customer satisfaction. WhatsApp’s investigation of QR code sharing and usernames shows its dedication to constant innovation to meet its global audience’s changing needs and lead the communication environment.
