The Reserve Bank of India has released the calendar for the bank holidays in December. This month, banks will be closed for 18 days, in line with the RBI holiday schedule. This covers every Sunday in addition to the second and fourth Saturdays of this year’s last month. During state-specific holidays, banks will only be closed in those states; however, during national holidays like Christmas, banks will be closed nationwide.
Every month, the RBI prepares a list of holidays. Three categories—Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday, Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Bank Closing of Accounts—are used to notify people about it.
The whole schedule of federal, state, and local holidays for December 2023 is shown below:
December 1st (Friday): Kohima and Itanagar celebrate Indigenous Faith Day and State Inauguration Day.
December 3, Sunday: Weekend (All States)
December 4, Monday: St. Francis Xavier’s Day (Goa)
December 9, Saturday: Every state’s second Saturday of the month
December 10, Sunday: Weekend (All States)
December 12, Tuesday: Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma (Shillong)
December 14, Thursday: Losoong/Namsoong (Gangtok)
December 17, Sunday: Weekend (All States)
December 18, Monday: U SoSo Tham’s (Shillong) death anniversary
December 19, Tuesday: is Goa Liberation Day.
December 23, Saturday: Every state’s fourth Saturday of the month.
December 24, Sunday: Weekend (All States)
December 25, Monday: Christmas (all states)
December 26, Tuesday: Christmas festivities in Aizawl, Kohima, and Shillong
December 27, Wednesday: Christmas in Kohima
December 30, On Saturday: U Kiang Nangbah (Shillong)
December 31, Sunday: Weekend (All States)
It is advisable that you schedule your job linked to banks appropriately. It should be mentioned that even though the branches will be closed during these holidays, services like internet banking and UPI will remain operational.
