The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police announced on Tuesday that restrictions under CrPC section 144 will be in place on February 7 and 8, ahead of significant protest demonstrations by farmers in Noida and Greater Noida.
In addition, police released a traffic advice, warning drivers not to veer off of certain roads in the twin cities due to farmers’ tractor-driven movements. Farmers’ organisations in Noida and Greater Noida have been staging protests since December 2023, demanding more developed plots against their land that was previously taken by the local development authority and increased compensation.
To further encourage their demands, the farmer organisations have called for a “kisan mahapanchayat” on Wednesday and a protest march to Parliament in the nation’s capital on Thursday.
“Farmers have proposed programmes for a march to Parliament in Delhi on February 8 and a mahapanchayat on February 7. Additional DCP (law and order), Hridesh Katheriya stated, “During the period, some other demonstration programmes by various organisations are also proposed.”
Katheriya stated in the order announcing the limitations, “In view of the above, the possibility of disturbing peace by anti-social elements cannot be ruled out.”
According to the order, the limitations include prohibiting unauthorised processions, including religious and political ones, and the unlawful gathering of more than five individuals. The public was advised about the diversions in Dadri, Tilapata, Surajpur, Sirsa, Rampur-Fatehpur, and other Greater Noida roads by the traffic authority.
“Take detours to prevent annoyance. In a statement, it stated, “For information pertaining to traffic, call the traffic police helpline at 9971009001.”
