On December 10, 2024, Shaheen Shah Afridi etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Pakistani bowler and the fourth cricketer in the world to take 100 wickets in all three formats of international cricket. The historic feat was accomplished during the first T20I of Pakistan’s three-match series against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban.
Afridi’s impressive bowling figures of 3/21 in four overs in the series opener helped him achieve the milestone of 100 T20I wickets.
The left-arm pacer debuted for Pakistan on April 3, 2018, in Karachi and has since become a key figure in the team’s bowling attack. His career wicket tally now stands as follows:
· Test Matches: 116 wickets in 31 games
· One-Day Internationals (ODIs): 112 wickets in 56 games
· T20 Internationals (T20Is): 100 wickets in 74 T20Is
This accomplishment places Afridi alongside cricketing greats like New Zealand’s Tim Southee, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, the only other players to achieve 100 wickets across all formats.
Shaheen Shah Afridi achievement underscores his consistency, versatility and skill in adapting to different formats of the game. His ability to perform under varying conditions has made him a vital asset for Pakistan.
