Shami’s Magic Leaves Fans Spellbound As India Beats New Zealand In Semi-Final

The Indian cricket team has marched one step forward towards their third World Cup win as yesterday they won the semi-final match against New Zealand by 70 runs. The match was played at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai and though Virat Kohli scored his 50th century in this match and Shreyas Iyer scored the fastest century of the knock-outs in World Cup but the hero of India’s win was pacer Mohammed Shami.

India chose to bat first after winning the toss and it got off to a good start as Rohit Sharma played a blistering knock of 47 runs and Shubman Gill also played a brilliant knock of 80*runs. Virat Kohli scored 117 runs and Shreyas Iyer played knock of 105 runs and helped their team in posting a total of 397/4 in their stipulated 50 overs.

New Zealand started badly as they lost their openers early to Mohammed Shami but skipper Kane Williamson (69 runs) and Daryll Mitchell (134 runs) first stabilized the innings and then they started scoring runs at good pace and at one point of time it felt that if these two don’t get dismissed, India might lose the match.

Mohammed Shami once again helped his team by dismissing both Williamson and Mitchell and he also sent Tom Latham back to pavilion at a score of duck. Later, Shami took two more wickets and ended the match with figures of 7-57 and he was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his performance.

Mohammed Shami has become the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup and that too, in the lowest number of innings (17). This is how social media reacted over the nail-biting contest:

Now India will face the winner of today’s semi-final (Australia vs South Africa) in the final of the tournament which will be played on 19 November at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
