The Australian cricket team is in a strong position in the WTC final against India as currently they are leading by 296 runs and the game of 2 days is still remaining to be played. Batting first, the Aussies posted a huge total of 469 runs on the scoreboard with the help of brilliant knocks of Steve Smith (121 runs) and Travis Head (163 runs).
In response, India had a poor start as there was a time when the Indian team was reeling at the score of 71/4 but Ajinkya Rahane (89 runs) and Ravindra Jadeja (48 runs) stabilized the innings and Shardul Thakur’s useful knock of 51 runs also helped in saving some respect for the team as India posted a total of 296 runs on the scoreboard in their first innings.
With this knock, Shardul Thakur equaled the record made by the legendary Australian cricketer Sir Don Bradman as the Indian cricketer became the third visiting batsman to make the most consecutive 50-plus scores at The Oval in the longest format of the game. Shardul Thakur has registered scores of 57, 60 and 51 in the last three matches that he has played at The Oval between 2021 and 2023.
While Sir Don Bradman achieved this feat in the period of 1930-34, another former Australian cricketer Allan Border achieved the same milestone in the period between 1985 and 1989.
