Sharmin Segal on Trolling: ‘Opinions Are Important for Actor’s Growth’


Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was released last month. It remains a topic of conversation on the Internet even a month later. Even though every role got their due share of praise, Sharmin Segal endured unending trolling for allegedly acting coldly toward her co-stars and “being expressionless” during the show.

The actress had to disable her social media comments section due to the rising level of negativity. Almost a month has passed since Sharmin Segal first spoke out against the constant harassment she was receiving online.

Sharmin Segal of Heermandi refers to the audience as “the king” and emphasizes the value of their input.  In a recent interview, the Heeramandi actress referred to the audience as “the king” and emphasized the significance of public feedback for an individual in the creative process. According to the actress, it provides her a perspective and makes it possible for her to accept it.

“At the end of the day, the audience is king,” she stated. And it’s critical to recognize that as a creative individual. Positive or negative, they are entitled to their own view. That’s one thing that helps me see things clearly and makes me feel alright.

Sharmin Segal would prefer to concentrate on the advantages rather than the drawbacks. The actress continued by stating that she worked very hard to play the part of Alamzeb in the program. She doesn’t lose hope and emphasizes the need to emphasize the good things in life rather than just the bad.

“I had poured all into Alamzeb’s persona. We have a tendency to focus only on the drawbacks, but there have also been a lot of benefits that we are unaware of. Positives are perhaps not intriguing enough to discuss, and we tend to overlook them to some extent, according to her opinion.

Sharmin continued by acknowledging that she avoided engaging in any conversation about her role following the premiere of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film. She had only begun to read everything a few days beforehand. The actress revealed that she had likewise been blind for a while before realizing that she was losing out on the love she was receiving.

Sharmin said that she has started focusing on the advantages. She has been going over everything. She said, “It’s the audience’s opinion that will probably help you be the best version of yourself.”

According to Sharmin Segal, actors voluntarily submit to constructive criticism and feedback of this kind.  As an artist or performer, the actress said, “positivity, constructive criticism, and a whole range of feedback” are certain to come one’s way. The actress accepted it as inevitable and that it was beneficial for her to understand other viewpoints.

“Your views mold you into the actor and person you are. You realize how many people you can reach when you see these genuine people reacting to you. These viewpoints are crucial, the speaker declared.

The actress is pleased to have reached a larger audience in recent weeks, which she “could’ve ever connected with in her entire life,” despite the various reactions she has received. Sharmin said that fans have connected with her character of Aastha from her debut film Malaal as well as with Alamzeb and herself through the show.

She emphasized that after the release of Heeramandi, her first movie was among the top ten films. The actress described being able to communicate with individuals throughout the world as a “nice experience” in general.

In addition to Sharmin, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Taha Shah Badussha, and other actors starred in the show. On May 1, the Netflix series will be available.
